These are general guidelines that apply to all shows sponsored by the NORTH Chapter

  • Frames are not required for artwork unless specified in the show prospectus.
  • If you frame your artwork, frames must be wood or metal; plastic frames are unacceptable.
  • Mats are not required for artwork unless specified in the show prospectus. If you add a mat to your artwork, it is recommended that all four sides be the same width. At the very least, the two sides and top must be the same width; the bottom may be wider to add visual weight to the piece.
  • Each show will specify the number of pieces that may be entered in the prospectus. If you want to enter a diptych, that will be considered TWO PIECES; if you want to enter a triptych, that will be considered THREE PIECES.
  • All artwork must be ready to hang with a WIRED HANGER securely attached to the back of the piece. Large and/or heavy pieces may use D-rings. NO SAWTOOTH HANGERS or HANGING TABS will be accepted. Venues may have restrictions on hanging artwork, and those will be outlined in the show prospectus. 3D pieces may require special hanging apparatus. You should always contact the show manager with questions about your special hanging needs.

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION

1. Read the Show Prospectus front to back.
2. Reread it, highlighting what you need to do or gather.
3. Create a folder on your computer for the show. Put an electronic copy of the prospectus and all your documents here as you complete them.
4. Name everything as it’s required for entry as you add it to the folder.
5. Most shows will require an Artist Statement. Artist Statements must be written in the FIRST PERSON (pronouns – I, me, my) and must not exceed 500 characters, including spaces.
6. Before applying, double-check that you have everything ready in your folder.
7. Apply.
