Virginia Janssen
Biographical Info
I am a Green Bay artist and teacher working in a variety of mediums, from textiles to painting to mosaic and bronze sculpture. I obtained a BFA in Painting from the University of Colorado, and a certificate from La Scuola Dell’Arte Della Medaglia in Rome, Italy. For many years I designed and sculpted coins, medallic sculpture and bas-relief bronzes.
More recently, I has turned to mosaics, clay, and textiles. Inspired by the materials themselves, I am partial to organic shapes and every kind of texture. Thematically, my work deals with our connections to nature and each other, and with the spaces we call home, which contain our emotional, spiritual and physical support systems.
I have been teaching art to someone for most of my life, which keeps me motivated to explore methods of making. There is nothing like watching others discover the joy found in personal artistic expression.
