Biographical Info My paintings are formal and literary in that they are schematically abstracted from source references such as photographs, books, movies, magazines, song lyrics, slogans, diagrams, and found objects. There is often a tension between tight design and loose execution. Lately, though, I am dissolving the ties to hard reality and painting from memory. I come to painting from a background in film, photography, and journalism and like to keep a documentary element or sense of quotation in my work. I have a BFA in film from NYU, an MA in Humanities from the U. of Chicago, and a BFA (Honors) in painting from the National Art School, Sydney.
