Maureen M. Kane

Artist STATEMENT Maureen Megan Kane (of MMK Design, LLC) operates her 27-year-old graphic design business and “moonlights” as an artist when she gets the time. Maureen is an affiliate of Material Studios + Gallery (located in the Marshall Building, corner of Water and Buffalo Street) and has found support and inspiration among its community of artists. She strives to create meaningful impact on her beloved neighborhood of Riverwest as well. She has contributed her design expertise to local businesses and community organizations. She has also participated in art exhibitions, a handful of public installations and artist-in-residency programs. She has donated art to many charity auctions. Maureen enjoys working in a variety of media; painting, collage and assemblages. After completing 10 years of daily drawings a while back, she is now committed to a bi-weekly practice of art making — with an emphasis of capturing the Great Horned Owl in paint. With her painterly expression in acrylic paint, she brings these magnificent creatures to life, encompassing their essence and their enchantment. “Each owl painting is a tribute to the magic of spotting this special and elusive raptor.
