Lynn Gilchrist

Lynn Gilchrist

Biographical Info Lynn Gilchrist is a painter who lives and works in Sturgeon Bay, WI. She earned an AB in Studio Art/Art History at Oberlin College in the early 1970’s with additional study at Temple University Abroad in Rome and California Institute of the Arts. The worlds of politics and art were in tremendous flux – it was an exciting time to be a young student and artist. Her early practice found her making large pastel landscapes. Eventually her interests led her into painting with acrylics and oil paints, using subject matter ranging from landscape to figurative and still-life. Gilchrist has been invited or juried into regional and national exhibitions over the years. Her work has won many prizes and is found in collections throughout the country. Gilchrist has a strong connection with nature, including the woods and water of her Door County environment. After years of painting en plein air, more recently she has been creating scenes from her imagination, often cutting stencils and painting with them in a way that makes a fanciful world. She also likes to paint monoprints using gel plates, often telling a somewhat autobiographical story.
