Biographical Info
Artist Karen Utech has found herself captivated by the magic of watercolor that transpires between pigment and water. Her first introduction to watercolor formed an immediate passion for the medium. She paints based on her emotions in the moment, while gravitating toward nature and landscapes. She has expanded her designs to cityscapes, still life, animals, portraits and plein air. Karen appreciates using various techniques that are unique to watercolor and from time to time incorporates other media to her art.
Karen, has devoted the last 30 years teaching children with special needs and supervising special education teachers, overseeing all special education programs. As an administrator, she strives to mentor staff using what she has learned as she moves forward to her next endeavor of being an artist. Karen brings her teaching and mentoring skills to the world of art applying a multisensory approach for children and adults.
When working in her studio you will find her listening to music which emerges through her works of art, creating a story that cannot be expressed verbally. The combination of music and art creates a fresh stream of inspiration and imagination. Listening to various genres while painting kindles the unique story of each piece of art in the hopes of touching someone’s heart.
