Karen Faller
Biographical Info Karen Faller is a mixed-media encaustic painter – primarily painting with beeswax, tree resin & pigments – who incorporates elements of original photography, collage, printmaking and found objects in her encaustic work. Originally from Canada, and now living in Madison, WI, she studied and worked as a biologist in British Columbia and New Zealand before bringing her passion for the natural world into her artwork professionally. A focus on nature and natural patterns are interwoven throughout her work, evoking a sense of place, and highlighting moments of change – both big and small. Sewing patterns, repeating geometrical shapes, printed text, and rust prints are common elements embedded in the layers of wax in many of her pieces, further exploring the ideas of the weathering of time, impermanence, and patterns in nature.
