Kelly Jean Ohl
Biographical Info Kelly Jean Ohl received a Bachelor’s Degree in both Theatre and Art, as well as a Master of Arts degree with an emphasis in ceramics from Minnesota State University. She also earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan. She taught foundation art courses at Winona State University for three years. Her work has been featured and sold in over 70 galleries across 25 states. It is also in private collections in all 50 states and internationally in: Almere, The Netherlands; Athens, Greece; Beijing, China; Brisbane, Australia; Calgary, Canada; Dakar, Senegal; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Kingston, Jamaica; London, England; Melbourne, Australia; Mexico City, Mexico; Olso, Norway; Pyeongtaek, South Korea Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Valcamonic,Italy; Vallauris, France; and Vaud, Switzerland. Kelly Jean utilizes a diverse and surprising array of household objects and tools to create her work, from antique kitchen utensils to intricate handmade textiles. These provide the foundation for many of her striking and detailed patterns. Each piece is then hand carved, burnished, sanded, washed and waxed. After completing the building process, Kelly Jean hand paints each piece with oxides and fires them multiple times in the kiln to achieve her trademark rich, textural and tactile finish.
