Tom Smith
Biographical Info Originally from Toledo Ohio, Tom Smith moved to Milwaukee in 1981 to earn a Master of Music Degree in Cello Performance. He plays in the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra and has been Principal Cellist of the Festival City Symphony since 1985. He also taught 1st Grade for 15 years in Wauwatosa. In 2012, Tom began oil painting after he left his teaching career. Three years later he discovered plein air painting. He has since participated in many plein air events in Wisconsin and won many awards. He is represented by River’s End Gallery, Waukesha, WI, and Plum Bottom Gallery, Egg Harbor, WI. As an advocate of art as therapy for mental illness, in 2020 Tom was invited by the League of Milwaukee Artists and the Cedarburg Art Museum to speak on “The Transformational Power of Creating Art”, sharing how his painting has brought light to a dark area of his adult life, fulfilling childhood dreams and driving away depression.
