Joy O'Brien
Biographical Info Joy Patrice O’Brien is a self-taught artist living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her art practice provides a safe space for navigating themes of mental health, healing, and identity, inviting an emotional connection with viewers through her work. Joy’s creative process includes intuitive abstract painting and mixed media collage, emphasizing experimentation and discovery through layers of house paint, acrylics, collage, and expressive mark making. Notable exhibitions Joy’s works were selected for include The Other Art Fair (2019), Chicago IL, 39th Annual SECURA Fine Arts Exhibition, Juried Event (2019), Trout Museum of Art, Appleton WI, and 30x30x30 Exhibition (2017), Var Gallery, Milwaukee WI. After 15+ years working in tech, Joy is a recovering UX designer, currently fulfilling a longtime dream of designing and renovating residential spaces with her husband.
