After graduating from UW Stout in Menomonie, WI with a Fine Art Degree and concentration in art metals, she lived in St Paul, MN working in a commercial photography lab and later at Art Resources. After a couple of years in Minnesota, she relocated to Portland, Oregon, and spent fifteen years living there. While in Portland Alexis worked for another photographer and then branched off on her own. She ran a successful photography business for ten years on the West Coast and had the opportunity to travel for jobs. After creating for others for many years she is now focusing on her fine artwork again. Alexis is inspired by the unique and versatile medium of encaustic. She often incorporates vintage found materials from local antique stores into her work. The mix of old and new has always been something she has been drawn to. Whether it’s blending materials to create a one-of-a-kind piece or incorporating her photography into a dreamy wax form, she often starts with ideas in the form of sketches, watercolor drawings & images and then lets the piece guide her in the direction it wants to go.
