Biographical Info

Colleen Gunderson is a Wisconsin-based artist whose photography highlights the interconnectedness and nuanced beauty of the natural world, suggesting a delicate balance and celebrating the poetic qualities of everyday scenes. Employing an atmospheric economy of form and the philosophy of Ma—intentional space—she produces work characterized by a sense of breathing room, in which each element acts as a narrative partner. Her images are printed on traditional Japanese washi paper, resulting in tactile, tranquil impressions that evoke the natural environment and its spirit of reflection and renewal.

Gunderson’s work has been exhibited at the Miller Art Museum, the Museum of Wisconsin Art, the Neville Public Museum, and internationally in the 2025 “Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition” in Japan. Currently, she is documenting the site fidelity of migratory birds—a meditation on the intersection of ancient rhythms of renewal and the immediate value of preserving habitat—while also integrating cyanotype printing into her practice. Committed to the restorative power of art, Gunderson promotes community wellness through collaborative partnerships with nonprofit organizations, placing her nature-inspired works in spaces dedicated to healing and reflection.
